Can you recommend any groomer in particular, especially for schnauzers? Aggie's is really close to our house but I'd hate to pick up a schnauzer without a beard ( don't ask, it's happened before. ). I've been clipping Rufus myself for the last three years but now we have carpet all over the house, no basement and I don't want hairs flying all over the place.

I'm just now seeing this. but I recommend Preppy Pets in OG. Mom's been taking the toy poodle there for a year now (every 3 weeks) and has been pleased nearly every time. We used to take Missy to Aggies. we don't anymore. The time I took her in, the guy snatched her and just flung her around. I don't care how a good a groomer they may be, I'm not takin any of my babies somewhere that's not kind & gentle with the pets! Especially a little harmless toy poodle that's shaking like crazy cuz she's scared!

I have used the country club and Angela's in Petal (and tried several others) but those two are really good to your babies.

*sigh* we tried PetSmart on the poodle. NOT good. They obviosuly didn't listen to the instructions on how we wanted her cut, and they chopped up as they saw fit. And the poor little baby has razor burn all on her neck, and a knick on her mouth :( They didn't even bother to put cute Christmas bows on her. put a stupid looking petsmart bandana. she's a prissy little toy poodle, but some bows on her!

I took Annie and Opie to PetSmart for thier Christmas look. I got some ribbons on Annie's neck and the silly bandana. She is NOT the ribbons type, (really big chocolate lab) Opie got the bandana and the boys got him a new Saints tag for his collar.
The people at Petsmart seemed frustrated and tired. Hopefully they were sweet to my babies. Annie is 8 years old today.
Annie smelled so good until she got the ham and hambone. Now, not so much.:smt118

I used Aggie's for years and years. I just recently started using PetSmart - but only because, now that I have a prissy (and she is PRISSY) baby girl - I get her nails painted.

We used to use Aggies, but I had a fit about the way the man acted. I hear they are trying to find an apprentice to take over because they're ready to retire. Maybe you have to request for cute bows at petsmart? Missy is definately the bow type & not the bandana kinda chick. They did her nails cute at Petsmart, but the razorburn thing worried us. When she's scared, she gets completely still. She never moves when she gets groomed. Even PreppyPets commented about her being one of the best dogs to groom because she's so still. So it seems like Petsmart was just really careless with her.

Lips, be sure to put a little Neo-sporin on the razor burns. it will make them less itchy and will keep down infection. I learned this trick from my best friend who was a professional groomer and dog handler on the show dog circuit for many years.
I have watched her many times groom dogs while living in Picayune. it is not hard to nick a dog or get too close to the skin. even with good dogs. Any strange noise and they can move the slightest bit and the deed is done. I am sure it wasn't done on purpose nor were they being mean to your baby. dogs are like little kids. they sometimes move at the worse times.
12-27-2007, 10:08 AM
yeah, that's true MD. I was a little shocked at the price that Petsmart charged. They were much higher than preppypets and aggies. <br />
<br />
I think I'm just too critical of groomers! I know accidents can.

So I paid too much?
Opie was 14.99 and Annie was 24.99. We then got the Top Dog package for each as we wanted the smell good stuff and tooth brushing that cost 15.00 per dog.

Hmm, well dad took her so I'm not sure what all he asked for. But the toy poodle was a little over $50 total for the same things that we typically had done at Aggies for $25 or $30 I believe.

That's a hefty price tag :smt103
I take Rufus ( miniature schnauzer ) to the Canine Country Club and pay $35.00. I like the cut but I have to let them know next time not to put any "fluff stuff" on him. I can't stand it when a dog smells like perfume or wears hair(fur?)spray. I used Aggie's once but wasn't happy with the cut. Two days after the grooming I had to take Rufus to the vet because of a double ear infection. He's never had one before and then a double one right after the grooming. Coincidence? Perhaps, but I am not taking any more chances. I am tempted to clip him myself again but with carpet all over the house it's too much of a hassle to control all the clipped hair.

We have taken our "Big Boy" (80 lbs) to the groomer at Pinebelt Vet on Hwy 49 and they have been good with him but I feel in part because that is his Vet as well. He is a money pit so they know him well. Because of his size, and due to double knee surgery can't be on a table, he isn't cheap. like a said, a money pit. But who cares if they treat my fur-kid like their own.
12-27-2007, 04:02 PM
I've taken my boxer to Caring Cuts by Brenda in Petal a couple of times. She actually does a much better job than the vet (whom we love). Don't know what kind of shampoo she uses, but that dog smelled great for over a week! He weighed about 40 lbs the last time he went in and my bill was only $25 or $26. She cut his nails too.
She's also very nice and seems to care about the animals.

all our babies used to to go there when we lived out that direction. It's a little too inconvenient for us now, but I do remember them being great. My grandfather installed the flooring there before he passed away. So next time you go in, think of a fellow MHer who has fond memories of the man that is responsible for the floor you're walking on.

I certainly will, and mention it to Dr. Sarah too. Hope you find your babies a great groomer.

I would recommend Caring Cuts by Brenda in Petal. I WOULD NOT go to All Animal or Aggies in Oak Grove. These two shaved my shnauzer almost bald. No beard or skirt left after they were done.

I might swing over to Petal just because they also sell Rufus' food. There is only one other place in Hattiesburg that sells it and they only have the 40 lbs bag there :smt118

I got my dog groomed a few days ago and since then he has chewed himself RAW. I have found a lot of scabs on him..is this like razor burn? I am NOT happy with this..he is in misery.BTW..he has no fleas and wasnt doing this BEFORE the grooming.

Could be razor burn but could also be scabies. If a dog with scabies was groomed before yours and the clippers/scissors weren't cleaned properly it's possible that your dog got infected.

UGH. you're probably right. I'll be at the vet asap.

Razor burn is where the dog was clipped to close to the skin. it will itch and then the dog will scratch..scabs are a possibility because of this. make sure you put some kind of antibotic cream on it to keep down infection..it will also keep it from itching so bad.

Scabs are a result of razor burn, yes, but I was referring to scabies, those pesky little mites ;). Rufus brought those home as a "gift" from a groomer years ago and it was a pain in the neck to get rid of them. Since then I have preferred to clip Rufus myself whenever possible and try to avoid boarding him in kennels.

there is a girl that works at panther petal vet, her name is shannon, she will be going back to pet smart in a couple of weeks. She is awesome with our Shih tzu and is very good with our babe.

I don't have a dog (only cats) but the lady from PooDoodles in Petal bought an ad for the Dud for Doodlebugs guide we did the end of March. Her name is Kim and she was very nice. I don't know anything about how well she does or services but the phone number is 601-544-6515. It says they do full grooming, nails, baths, and boarding. I may try her for our long-haired cat. We've used Canine Country Club in the past and they've been good. Yellow is always a brat when we take him but that isn't surprising. But I may try PooDoodles if she does cats since she did business with me.

I just wanted to mention that Affinity Retreat on West 4th Street is now open. I haven't been yet, but plan to soon with Kramer. She told me that a mini schanuzer bath, cut, ears, nails would be $30.00 - which is incredibly cheap! Their number is 601-336-7425. Anyone used them yet for any of their services? I understand they will have a hotel =)

There is a new groomer opened up in Richton. I am taking Alan there today. Mainly to get his nails trimmed and all.
She said it would only be 13-15 bucks on the phone, I will write a review when I pick him up!!
Was that just for a nail trim? IF so that was expensive. I take BooBoo to the vet to get her nails trimmed and it is $6.00. I clip her myself.
03-21-2010, 05:10 PM
If the dog is majorly agressive I would recommend taking it to the vet, they can sedate him/her and groom the dog without it being truamatized and anyone getting hurt.
Yes I will be doing cats
And I paid 12 dollars the first time I took him, it included ears, nails and a bath.

Taffy is a tee-niney toy poodle. She is a perfect lady. She never leaves my side.she is 6 years old. I would love a mobile groomer. I live too far out to expect you to come here but I could go to Hattiesburg to my sons house. You can do all his dogs too!
03-21-2010, 05:26 PM
I recently recieved a toy poodle puppy as a gift! This girl is ah-mazing, she never leaves my side!!
Where are you located, if I could gather up enough customers to make the trip out it would be worth it!
03-21-2010, 06:06 PM
Ya'll just keep me in mind. When I tackle this school I will be certified. Then it is just gathering customers and equipment.

Hey, I left my Banjo leaned up against a tree the other nite while I watered the bushes and went off and forgot it. Would you look around for it later tonight?
